Millsboro
is a small town in Sussex County in the southeastern portion of the state. The 2006 estimated population was 2,512 residents. Founded in 1860 and incorporated in 1893, Millsboro dates back much further to the time of the Nanticoke Indians. The town of Millsboro was named for the many grist and saw mills that prospered in the area after the damming of the Indian River in 1792. Today, the community is thriving with a downtown business district, as well as many businesses along U.S. Route 113, including two shopping centers. Millsboro is nearly surrounded by Millsboro Pond, Ingram Pond and Betts Pond. These three freshwater ponds offer boating, canoeing and bass fishing. Cupola Park is a good place to launch your boat and the Rosedale Beach Fish & Wildlife Area also has a boat ramp and a fishing/crabbing pier. Millsboro is home to an 18-hole, championship golf course and has charter fishing and boat tours. Other things to do include pontooning on the Indian River, hiking, birdwatching and driving the scenic coastline along the Indian River Bay. Millsboro offers convenient shopping along with antiques and specialty shops. Restaurants include everything from fresh seafood and family-style home cooking. The town of Millsboro is just a short drive to the beach resort communities of Rehoboth Beach, Fenwick Island and Dewey Beach.

Southern Delaware's weather is greatly moderated by the Atlantic Ocean. The state is the second smallest in the U.S., only 96 miles long and 9 to 35 miles across. Most of it lies within the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the climate transitions between a humid subtropical climate and a continental climate. However, despite its small size, there are significant variations in temperature and amount of snowfall among the state's three counties. Sussex County, which includes the southeastern beach areas, has a somewhat milder climate and a longer growing season than the northern part of the state. Summers are warm with occasional thunderstorms and July is the hottest month of the year. Southeastern Delaware tends to have the highest temperatures and more precipitation than the center of the state, with an average precipitation of 46 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although August is usually the wettest month. The whole state has mild winters because the mountains of Pennsylvania protect it from cold northwest winds. January, on average, has the coldest temperatures.
